Hello, my name is Lance Halverson. I started taking ballroom dance lessons in February of 2002. When I began dancing, I was as green as they come. I had a background in music, which helped, but talk about two left feet… I had three. I fell in love with dance, and after many hours of dedicated practice, I started to get it only a few months later. For the next year, I immersed myself in dance by watching instructional tapes, traveling to Asheville and Wytheville for lessons, and began training to be an instructor for Stardust Dance Center in Kingsport.
I have worked with many well qualified instructors, such as Wayne and Marie Crowder, former four-time Latin World Amateur champions and Tibor Varga, Slavic Ten-Dance champion and three time World and European Cup finalist. I continue to train with teachers and coaches, and I am currently in the process of becoming certified in the United States Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. I seek the best training possible so that I can pass on these techniques and training for maximum dance enjoyment to my students. In December of 2009 I passed my American Smooth Bronze exam (highly commended) becoming the first ISTD certified instructor in the Tri-Cities. I passed my American Smooth Silver exam (highly commended) in December of 2012. I am currently working on American Rhythm. I passed my American Rhythm exam in July of 2014, highly commended. I am now working toward the silver level in American Rhythm.
I know for myself that dance is a total body experience. Dancing engages us emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. My goal through Dare 2 Dance is to enrich relationships, strengthen marriages, and help people gain confidence and poise in every area of life.
